Player Spotlight - Abby Tovey

Today's player spotlight features #11 Sophomore Abby Tovey.

1.) When did you start playing softball? Was there a certain reason you started playing initially?

  • I started playing softball when I was 8. My cousin was playing and loved she wanted me to try it out and then I ended up loving it.

2.) What is your favorite position to play?

  • 3rd base. It’s always been my go to.

3.) What do you most love about softball?

  • I love the competition, it’s so much fun to be in the thrill of the game.

4.) Do you have any softball superstitions or routines you must always follow?

  • I always have to put my right cleat on first and then my left, and then tie my right cleat and then my left.

5.) Is there a certain food/snack you eat before or after a game? Or is there something you always crave before/during/after a game?

  • I’m always craving any kind of ranch seeds during the game.

6.) Favorite sunflower seed flavor

  • I like all of the flavors. I’m a big sunflower seed type of player.

7.) What is your most memorable softball moment to date?

  • When I got the last out in a rec league championship game.

8.) What is your walk up song?

  • Browned Eyed Girl by Van Morrison

9.) What position would you NEVER want to play? Why?

  • The only position I wouldn’t want to play would be pitcher. I’ve tried being a pitcher but that clearly never worked out.

10.) What do you hope the team will accomplish this season?

  • I believe we can win a Regional Championship.

11.) What are some of your hobbies outside softball/sports/school?

  • Outside of school, I do things like play video games, working at the pool as a lifeguard during the summer, hang with my friends, and do things with my family.

12.) What are your future goals?

  • I want to go to college, not sure where or for what. I’m hoping to play basketball in college, it's always been a dream of mine. I just want to get out of this small town as much as I love it, I wanna go see the world.

13.) Any other fun tidbits you’d like to share concerning softball?

  • I’ve always played 3rd base. I don’t think there’s been a year where I haven’t.
